FiltersPriming Procedure for the PF-2 Berkey :
Water Filter1.Use a mild soap to wash the exterior of the Berkey PF-2 filters, leaving the blue caps in place.
2. Making sure your hands are clean, remove the two blue caps on each end of the Berkey PF-2 filter. Please save the blue caps, for future use.
3. Place the rubber priming washer (tan) on one end of the Berkey PF-2 filter and align the hole in the washer with the hole in the PF-2 filter.priming (beige color) on one end of the Berkey PF-2 filter and align the hole in the washer with that of the PF-2 filter.
4. Firmly press the priming washer against the faucet of the sink.
5. While holding the priming washer against the faucet, gently open thecold water faucet and allow water to flow through the PF-2 filter. Let the water run for 2 minutes or until the water coming out the other end is clear. For a better grip, you can place your thumb on the tap to hold the elements more firmly.
6. Repeat the steps above to allow water to flow through the filter in the opposite direction.
7. Prime each Berkey PF-2 filter by repeating steps 3 through 6 above.
Installation of water filter PF-2
1. Remove the top reservoir from your filtration system and place it upside down on a flat surface, making sure the threaded ends of the Black Berkey are facing up.
2. Screw the Berkey PF-2 filters onto the threaded ends of each Black Berkey filter using the arrow indicating the direction of water flow as a reference. Do not make more than 8 complete revolutions to avoid damaging the filter grid at the inlet of the PF-2 filter. Make sure the arrow is pointing away from the upper tank.
3. Place the upper tank back onto the lower tank , so that the Berkey PF-2 filters are hanging inside. Fill the upper tank with water and wait for all the water to drain into the lower tank. Discard the rinse water to remove any potential residue inside. Your purification system is now ready for use.
Please note that in rare cases it may be necessary to flush the mechanism up to 5 times before the dust completely disappears.
Some additional notes regarding the PF-2 Berkey filter :
1. When the lower tank is filled with water, the Berkey PF-2 filters are fully submerged.
2. If the water level in the lower tank is higher than the base of the Berkey PF-2 filters, it is normal for a small amount of water to escape from the top of the filters, where the PF-2 filters connect to the Black Berkey elements.
3. Most purification systems have a capacity from 7.5 to 11 liters in their lower chamber, which allows an average household to make one refill per day. We recommend filling the upper reservoir at night, before going to bed. The water stored in the upper tank will be purified and ready for consumption the next day in the lower tank of the filter. If you are using a large amount of water, you can speed up the treatment by drawing the purified water into a pitcher or other container when the water level reaches the base of the Berkey PF-2 filters.
