Three steps for commissioning
- Prepare the two filters. Carry out their priming and initial rinsing according to the Phoenix instructions.
- Assemble the fountain. Place the joints, tighten the nuts by hand and close the unused slots with the caps.
- Fill, then serve. The water passes through the filters by gravity and collects in the lower tank. Check the level of this tank before any new filling to avoid overflow.
Phoenix filters for your everyday water
The stainless steel tanks of the Royal Berkey® are combined with filtering elements whose formulation includes activated carbon from coconut shells, to notably reduce chlorine and improve the taste and odor of water.
Officially endorsed by New Millennium Concepts, Ltd. for Berkey® systems, the Phoenix filters constitute a distinct reference from the Black Berkey®, with their own characteristics and maintenance recommendations.
UNDERSTANDING THE FLOW
A fast and scalable flow
| Configuration | Maximum flow rate advertised |
|---|---|
| 2 Phoenix filters supplied | Up to 15.1 L/h |
| 4 Phoenix filters | Up to 26.5 L/h |
Four-filter configuration requires the addition of two additional elements, sold separately.
Phoenix filters are designed to provide high flow. Rapid flow does not, in itself, constitute a fault.
It corresponds to the expected operation when the assembly is waterproof and that the flow rate remains consistent with the characteristics of the Royal Berkey®.
OUR MAINTENANCE RECOMMENDATION
12 months
Annual replacement recommended
Our shop recommends replacing Phoenix filters every 12 months from their commissioning, or earlier depending on water quality and volume filtered.
The usage times announced for Black Berkey® should not be automatically applied to Phoenix filters.

Certifications identified
The Royal Berkey® system equipped with Phoenix New Millennium Edition™ filters is listed in official NSF records for:
- NSF/ANSI 42 : reduction of chlorine, tastes and odors.
- NSF/ANSI/CAN 372 : compliance with requirements relating to the lead content of equipment materials in contact with water.
Standard 372 concerns materials: it does not certify the reduction of lead present in water. Before first use, follow the priming and rinsing steps prescribed in the instructions.
THE RED DYE TEST
Check the assembly and sealing
The red food coloring test is used to check the correct installation of the system and to detect possible internal leaks, in particular around the joints and filter tightening points.
What it checks
Good assembly and tightness of the assembly: joints, tightening of filters and plugs for unused locations.
What it does not measure
Filtration effectiveness against contaminants. This leak-tightness check does not replace laboratory performance analyses.
Use the red dye recommended by the manufacturer and follow the instructions in the leaflet. Remove any PF-2 post-filters before this test.
For your tap drinking water
The manufacturer does not claim microbiological treatment performance for Phoenix New Millennium Edition™ filters.
Origin of components: Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ filters manufactured and assembled in India; Berkey® stainless steel tanks assembled in the United States from American and imported parts.
